Overview

A Century-Old Warehouse, Reawakened

Huron Station is a 1920s-era brick warehouse in the Cornfield Arroyo Seco corridor of Northeast Los Angeles, designated Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument #404. The building has stood for nearly a century as a quiet piece of the neighborhood's industrial fabric, and this project brings it back into active community use.

Phase 1 includes a change of use, an unreinforced masonry seismic retrofit under LADBS Division 88, a relocated stair, and new restrooms. The work is being carried out in close coordination with the Office of Historic Resources to protect the character-defining features of the monument while bringing the building into compliance with current life safety, accessibility, and structural standards.

When complete, the Playhouse will give the surrounding neighborhood a new venue for gathering, performance, and cultural programming inside a building that has long been part of its history.
