Resnick Campus
Overview
Mid-Century, made new
Designed by Gruen Associates, the Resnick Campus is the renovation of Wilshire Boulevard Temple's former University Synagogue, an integral part of the Brentwood community. The project modernized the facility, expanded its functionality, and refreshed its aesthetic while staying true to the Mid-Century Modern design cherished by the congregation.
The multi-purpose campus brings together a sanctuary, chapel, classrooms, campus offices, an Early Education school, and event halls. Key architectural features, including the sanctuary's stained-glass and distinctive circular windows, anchor a unified design that honors the congregation's history. Interior spaces were reorganized and updated with modern finishes to better serve the community's evolving needs.
Ceremonial experiences in the sanctuary and chapel are heightened by a more structured entry procession, with landscaping that adds a sense of formality and ceremony. A formal memorial garden outside the sanctuary offers space for contemplation and reflection. Six triangular columns inscribed with names punctuate the garden's pathways, lined with concrete benches, flowering trees, citrus trees, and vine-covered brick.
