Japanese American National Museum
Overview
A museum reimagined
The Japanese American National Museum (JANM) is an existing museum that opened in 1999 in the Little Tokyo neighborhood of Los Angeles.
JANM recently embarked on an $85M campaign to secure their future and transform the physical and digital presence, the exhibitions, and the programming.
The revitalization phase of the project will include a redesign and repurposing of the campus to provide welcoming, cohesive, and dynamic spaces. Slated to open in 2026, In the Future We Call Now: Realities of Racism, Dreams of Democracy will draw on today's technological advances and national discussion around race and democracy, as well as the Museum's important collection of more than 150,000 objects, to re-imagine the way it tells the stories of Japanese Americans from the early days of immigration in the mid-1800s through World War II to today.
The project includes a new grand entry for the audiences and a refresh of the exhibits along with a tenant improvement and renovation. The core exhibition will be relocated to the first floor. The project will also include environmental conditions upgrades to provide enhanced humidification / dehumidification control to better preserve the artifacts and allow for future exhibits.

"We had the good fortune to work with Alex and Landmark PM on a transformational project for our organization. Alex is extremely organized, disciplined and focused, demonstrating a high-level of professionalism in all aspects of his work. His personality and enthusiasm for the project allowed him to help create a cohesive and effective team out of parties with different organizational cultures. At the same time, it was always clear that he made sure decisions were made in the best interest of the client and its project. I would not want to do another project without him."
"Working with Alex and Landmark PM has been a great experience. As the architect on a complex museum renovation project, I appreciated how they kept everything running smoothly without losing sight of the bigger picture. They are organized, professional, and strike a rare balance between client needs, design integrity, and construction realities. Landmark PM was instrumental in keeping the client on schedule with decision-making and in minimizing scope creep and budget increases. Over my 25 years in the industry, I've worked with many owner's rep teams, and Alex and Landmark PM truly stand out. They are team players who always put the project's best interests first. Their calm, collaborative approach and ability to resolve issues effectively made a real difference—and I'd gladly work with them again."
"Alex and the Landmark PM team bring a rare balance of clarity, calm, and care to even the most complex projects. They lead with patience and intention — ensuring that every voice is heard, every decision is thoughtful, and the work always moves forward with purpose. Their ability to foster trust, align diverse teams, and keep the big picture in focus makes them an invaluable partner. I'd work with them again in a heartbeat."

"Working in the construction and development industry for over 23 years I have worked with a lot of various team members. With that in mind, I have had the pleasure and the luck to work with Alex for the last 5 years on three large and complex projects. He is a natural leader who is competent, organized and a knowledgeable Owners representative. He is a superb team member who keeps the project and the team's best interests at heart. With professionalism, a direct, transparent, and collaborative approach, Alex ensures project success. I wish he were on all our projects."
